How it plays
The fuse is hidden, so nobody knows when the bomb will blow. The ticking speeds up, the phone starts to shake, and then it explodes on whoever's holding it. That player loses a heart.
Run out of hearts and you're out. The last one left wins.
Three ways to play
- Letter combo: say a word with ING, TR or QU in it, on easy, medium, hard or a mix.
- Category: name a fruit, a country, a pizza topping or something smaller than a phone. There are 70 categories.
- Hot potato: no words at all. Just keep the bomb moving.
Made for game night
Play with 2 to 12 people, each on your own or in 2, 3 or 4 teams that share their hearts. You choose 1 to 5 hearts and a fuse range between 5 seconds and 2 minutes. If the bang and the shaking are too much, Calm mode turns off the shake and the flash.
Arguing about a word? Turn on Check words and type each one in. The offline dictionary decides, and it won't let anyone repeat a word in the same round.
Letters and categories come in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French and Hebrew. The menus are in 16 languages.
Practice in your browser
Stuck on QU or TR? The word finder on this site lists every word that contains your letters, and it has a quick one player practice round with a hidden fuse.
Questions
Is Word Bomb free?
Yes, it's free to download and supported by ads. A full screen ad may show up between games, after the winner screen, never during a round. Short optional videos open category packs early, and the packs open on their own after 3, 6 and 10 games anyway. One purchase removes the ads between games.
Does it need the internet?
No. Type in everyone's names and play anywhere. There's no account.
Where do the words come from?
The word lists are ENABLE (public domain), Letterpress word lists by Loren Brichter (CC0), Portuguese words by Fernando Serboncini (MIT) and Hebrew words from FrequencyWords by Hermit Dave (CC BY SA 4.0).
