In short
- The app has no account, no sign in, no ads and no server of our own. We don't collect any personal data.
- Your drawings, the gallery and your settings are stored only on your device.
- There are no analytics, no tracking and no advertising SDK in the app.
- An optional one time purchase, the Studio pack, adds inks, papers, brushes and gears. Google Play handles the payment, and we never see your payment details.
- Pictures only leave the app when you choose to share them or save them to your photos.
1. Who we are
Symmetry Drawing: Spirograph (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is published by manextapps. This policy explains how the Android app handles information. For questions, see Contact.
2. About the app
It's a calm drawing app. In Symmetry mode, every line you draw repeats around the centre of the sheet, from 2 to 24 times, with an optional mirror. In Spirograph mode, a toothed wheel rolls inside or outside a ring and draws the curve. Drawings are printed in a risograph style and kept in a gallery on your phone.
Everything runs on your device. The internet is used only for the optional purchase and when you choose to open a link such as this policy.
3. Data we collect
We, the developer, don't operate a server for this app and don't collect, receive or store personal data about you. There is no account or sign in, no analytics or crash reporting tool, no Firebase and no advertising SDK.
The optional purchase is processed by Google Play, see section 6.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply, and keep it only as long as needed for that.
4. Data stored on your device
So the app works, it saves the following locally. None of it is sent to us.
- Your drawings: the lines and gear curves on each sheet, the paper it's on, its name and a small preview picture.
- The tools you last used: ink, brush, brush size, segments, mirror, paper and gear settings.
- Settings: sound, vibration, reduced motion, whether you've seen the first run tips, and whether the Studio pack belongs to your account.
Google's billing library also stores some information on your device so the purchase works correctly.
5. Saving and sharing your drawings
When you tap Save to Photos, the app writes a PNG picture of your drawing to your device's Pictures folder (in an album called Symmetry Draw). On Android 8 and 9, Android's own file picker opens and you choose where the picture goes. No storage permission is needed, and your other photos stay out of reach.
When you tap Share, the app hands a PNG picture to the app you pick in Android's share menu. What happens next is up to that app and its own privacy policy. Pictures have no watermark and no hidden data from us.
6. In app purchase
You can buy the Studio pack, a one time purchase that adds more inks, papers, brush textures and gears. Everything else in the app stays free without it. The purchase is made through Google Play Billing: Google handles the payment and your payment details, and we never see them. The app only receives confirmation from Google Play that the pack belongs to your Google account, so it can turn the pack on and restore it on a new device (Settings, Restore purchase). Google's handling of purchases is described in the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Play terms.
7. Android permissions
You won't be asked for runtime permissions such as location, camera, microphone, contacts or storage. The installed app includes these permissions, all added by Google's and Android's libraries:
- Google Play billing (
com.android.vending.BILLING): lets the app offer the optional purchase. - Internet access and network state: used by Google Play Billing to talk to the Play Store.
- A private broadcast permission (
DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION): added by the AndroidX core library so the app's internal messages stay inside the app. It gives no access to your data.
8. Children
The app is made for adults and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app doesn't collect personal information from anyone. If you're a parent or guardian with questions, please contact us.
9. Data retention and deletion
- Our servers: we have none, so we keep no copy of your drawings or settings.
- On your device: you can delete a drawing from the gallery (press and hold it, then Delete). All app data stays until you clear the app's data in Android settings or uninstall the app. Pictures you saved to Photos stay in your Pictures folder until you delete them there.
- Google: purchase records kept by Google Play are retained according to Google's policies. See the Google Privacy Policy and How Google retains data.
10. Device backup
The app lets Android's backup feature include your drawings and settings, so they can come back when you set up a new device. If backup is turned on in your device settings, Android may store this data in your Google Account backup or move it during a device to device transfer, under Google's terms and your device settings. You can turn backup off in your device's settings.
11. Links and contact
We don't sell or share personal data, because we don't receive any. Apart from Google Play Billing, the app sends information only when you choose to:
- Open a link, such as this privacy policy. This page is hosted on GitHub Pages; GitHub may log visitors' IP addresses for security purposes under the GitHub General Privacy Statement. This page uses no cookies, analytics or tracking scripts.
- Share or save a drawing, as described in section 5.
- Contact us: the app opens your email app with our address filled in. You decide what to send.
12. Security
Because we don't collect your data, there's no copy of it on our side to protect or lose. Your drawings on the device are protected by Android's app sandbox. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we can't promise absolute security.
13. Your rights
Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Israel's Protection of Privacy Law, 5741 (1981), and U.S. state privacy laws may give you rights over your personal data. These can include the right to access, correct or delete it, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority.
- Since we hold no personal data about you, in most cases there's nothing for us to access or delete. Your drawings are on your device and you can delete them as described in section 9.
- For purchase data held by Google, use Google's tools described in the Google Privacy Policy.
- You can always contact us, and we'll help as far as we can.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if the app or the services it uses change. We'll post the updated version on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also take reasonable steps to let you know, for example through the app's release notes.
